Project Story

At 3421 Chandler Parkway in Bellingham, our team was tasked with transforming a compact backyard with challenging access into a private, low-maintenance retreat.

We began with a full property cleanup led by our enhancement crew, carefully shaping out the existing plantings that would remain onsite. In the backyard, our crew used pickaxes to break up heavily compacted soils and organics, hand-loading the debris into super sacks for transport to our organic waste facility, where it was recycled back into soil.

Due to extremely limited access and tight street parking, we contracted a crane with over 100 feet of reach to lift all materials over the client’s home and into the backyard. More than 55 super sacks were pre-filled at our yard with gravel, rock, synthetic turf, sand, and plant material, ensuring efficient delivery and installation.

The final design prioritizes privacy and ease of care, with layered plantings that screen neighboring homes and soften the space. Hicks Yew and Limelight Hydrangea provide structure and seasonal interest, while ornamental grasses add color, movement, and texture throughout the beds. A modern stepping stone walkway made of large-format pavers connects the backyard entry to the deck, and drip irrigation ensures consistent watering across the plantings.

The result is a clean, contemporary landscape that feels secluded and serene, despite the challenges of access and scale.
